Launch of the NSW RNIG Web Site

Dear Members and Colleagues,

It is a great pleasure to be announcing today, 27th August 2008 the long awaited launch of NSW RNIG online.

The RNIG is extremely indebted to the College of Nursing for making our vision of a website into reality. Special mention and thanks go to Andrea Szabo, Amanda Rehn, Char Mae Veloso, and Catherine Woolley. Without their assistance and guidance, this day would not have come. A special thanks must also go to Darrin Penola (Vice Present, NSW RNIG) for all his hard work to prepare and gather content for the website. It was his enthusiasm and motivation that led to the creation of NSW RNIG online!

This web site is designed to be a portal of information and a contact point for respiratory nurses throughout NSW to share ideas and support one another. It offers nurses easy and centralised access to information about upcoming events and courses run not only by the RNIG but other professional groups such as the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ) and The College of Nursing. There will also be regular updates of current issues related to Respiratory Nursing. We hope in the future there will also be a question corner where members can log questions or case studies for comments in addition to a Members Only section with abridged versions of past RNIG Education Evening presentations. With the launch of the NSW RNIG website, the focus is now on providing far-reaching support for our colleagues both metropolitan and rural. The Executive Committee of the NSW RNIG invite our members and the broader respiratory nursing fraternity to submit articles and relevant links to enable the site to flourish and lead the way for knowledgeable, comprehensive, evidenced based nursing care. Please feel free to email us at: rnig@nursing.aust.edu.au.

The main aims of this web site are to:

  • To keep members informed of upcoming events and activities
  • To support nurses working in the field of respiratory nursing and provide the opportunity to discuss and disseminate information
  • Promote upcoming activities run by or supported by the NSW RNIG such as evening seminars, education days, conferences and workshops
  • Assist individual nurses who otherwise may work in isolation and provide support to implement evidence based nursing care
  • Promote and facilitate research within the respiratory field and
  • Promote respiratory nursing as a specialty

Welcome to the site and thank you.
