Mary Roberts - President

Mary Roberts RN, Acute Care cert, Cert IV Assessment & Workplace Training, BN, MN
Mary has been a Registered Nurse for 20years, working in the fields of high dependency and respiratory medicine. She has an Acute Care certificate and a Masters in Nursing
Mary currently is the Clinical Nurse Consultant for Respiratory Ambulatory Care - an outpatient COPD service in Sydney West Area Health Service
Mary is an active member of the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ), the NSW Greater Metropolitan Clinical Taskforce (GMCT) and the Respiratory Nurses Interest Group where she is on the executive committee as the current President.
Mary also has a strong interest in research (both qualitative and quantitative) and has presented at a number of national and international conferences. She has numerous other research projects in progress in addition to providing lectures for the medical students and interns in SWAHS, the College of Nursing, Community Health, Correctional Health and AAREA
Mary’s areas of interest include COPD, pulmonary rehabilitation, end of life issues on patients with COPD and telemedicine.

Lucy Keatley - Treasurer

Lucy Keatley RN, ICU cert, BN.
Lucy qualified as an RN at Kings College Hospital London. After choosing Australia as her home, she completed her Intensive Care Course whilst working at Royal Prince Alfred (RPAH) ICU. After travelling around Australia and working in critical care areas in other states, she returned to NSW.

Whilst working as the Respiratory Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) at RPAH she also completed her Bachelor of Nursing at the University of Sydney. After moving to VIC she worked for the University of Melbourne in Asthma research, and continued in a similar role when returning to NSW, working for the Department of Respiratory Medicine at Royal North Shore Hospital.
Her current role is the Cystic Fibrosis CNC at Westmead Adult Hospital, working with a small, dynamic multi-disciplinary team dedicated to optimise the health of young adults with this complex and chronic genetic disease.
Lucy is also an active member of the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ) and the Respiratory Nurses Interest Group where she is on the executive committee as the Treasurer.

Darrin Penola - Vice President

Darrin Penola RN, MN (Critical Care)
Darrin is the Respiratory Clinical Nurse Consultant / Respiratory Chronic Care Service Coordinator at St. Vincent's Hospital, Sydney.
Darrin is a current and active member of the GMCT/Agency of Clinical Innovation Respiratory Network Steering Committee and SESIAHS Respiratory Clinical Stream Governance Committee (RCD).
Darrin is also a casual guest lecturer for several Sydney based universities and the College of Nursing for undergraduate and post graduate courses.
Darrin is also the Vice President of NSW Respiratory Nurses Interest Group, Associtate member of TSANZ and Affiliated member of APSR.

Jane Civitico - Education Officer

Jane Civitico RN, Dip Nursing Management
Jane is the Respiratory Clinical Nurse Consultant at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Camperdown Sydney and is an active member of both the Respiratory Nurses Interest Group and the Thoracic Society of Australia & New Zealand
Jane has a wide range of lecturing duties including the Respiratory / Critical Care / Immunology / Advanced Emergency / Asthma Nursing Courses and Basic and Respiratory Advanced Trainee Registrars at SSWAHS. Jane also runs the GWAHS COPD Workshops in addition to a range of undergraduate and post graduate courses at Sydney University including the Nursing ( Masters) Course, Critical Care Nursing Course, Nursing (Undergraduate), Medical and Pharmacy.

Karen For - Education Officer

Karen For RN

Karen is the Respiratory Nurse at Liverpool Hospital. Her clinical role is multifocal working in a multidisciplinary team educating and promoting self management in respiratory illnesses, smoking cessation and sleep medicine, and providing respiratory support in NIV and oxygen therapy.
Karen is an active member of the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ), the NSW Greater Metropolitan Clinical Taskforce (GMCT) and the Respiratory Nurses Interest Group.

Louise Barclay - Education Officer

Louise Barclay RN, BN
Louise has had extensive respiratory experience as Clinical Co-ordinator on the respiratory ward at St Vincent's Hospital Sydney and then 4 years as the Respiratory CNC with the respiratory outreach team, Post Acute Care Services(PACS) at the Prince of Wales Hospital, Sydney, before taking up the role of Nurse Manager of PACS.
Louise is also an active member of the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ) and the Respiratory Nurses Interest Group.

Mary Dunford - Education Officer

Mary Dunford RN MN, Cardiothoracic cert
Mary is the Clinical Nurse Consultant Respiratory in the Dept of critical care, medicine and emergency services St George Hospital Kogarah. She has held the role for the past 16 years and holds a Masters degree in her elected field of nursing. In addition, Mary also holds a cardiothoracic certificate gained at her previous employment at St Vincent’s hospital, Sydney.
Her position has a strong emphasis on clinical consultation, case management, collaborative research, practice development and education not only across the St George hospital, but the central hospital network and SESIAHS. She is a member of the SESIAHS Respiratory clinical division and also a member of the steering committee of the ACI [formerly GMCT.}
Mary’s areas of interest include non-invasive ventilation, tracheostomy care, pulmonary rehabilitation, respiratory failure, neuromuscular and COPD disease, lung cancer and asthma.
She is the co – founder of the Respiratory Nurses’ Interest group of NSW and remains a member of the executive education team.
Her past collaborative research projects include projects on competency based respiratory nursing care, non-invasive ventilation, COPD, pulmonary rehabilitation and palliative care. She has a developed a Graduate Certificate in Respiratory Nursing in conjunction with the University of Technology Sydney and collaborated on the development of the distance education respiratory course at the NSW College of nursing
Currently Mary is the she is co –convenor of the NSW Health Essentials of Care Project on the respiratory ward at St George and a co investigator on a palliative/ respiratory study titled Behind the Mask – Patient experience of Non Invasive Ventilation.

Ken Caldwell - Secretary

Ken is a nurse educator at the College of Nursing. Prior to this he worked at Northern Sydney Central Coast Area Health Service Learning & Development for 4 years and prior to that worked for 8 years in Emergency nursing at Royal North Shore Hospital.
Ken teaches across disciplines in areas of respiratory nursing & physical assessment, has a particular interest in respiratory physiology and holds a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in human physiology. He coordinates subjects in applied clinical physiology, respiratory nursing, chronic & complex care and infection control.
Ken has a keen interest in developing nurses through education, fostering a collaborative learning approach in the classroom and in the e-learning environment.

Shannon Holmes - Education Officer

Shannan Holmes has been working at St George Hospital for 12 years and has been a CNS in Respiratory for four years. Shannan has completed a Graduate Certificate in Acute Care Nursing at the College of Nursing in 2006 and is currently undertaking a Masters in Nursing - Nurse Practitioner at the University of Newcastle. Shannan has a keen enthusiasm for all aspects of Respiratory Nursing with a special interest in the use of NIV in acute and chronic respiratory failure.
